My first dinner in Ireland was at The Old Storehouse, in the Temple Bar area on the south bank of the River Liffey in central Dublin, Ireland. The area is bounded by the Liffey to the north, Dame Street to the south, Westmoreland Street to the east and Fishamble Street to the west. It is promoted as Dublin’s ‘cultural quarter’ and, as a centre of Dublin’s city centre’s nightlife, is a tourist destination.
Exploring the sights and sounds of the cultural Irish capital, Dublin, with our local tour guide and driver included a visit to EPIC Irish Immigration Museum and Guinness Brewery. In the afternoon, we enjoyed a Trinity College Guided Tour and a visit to the famous Library to see the Book of Kells. We finished off a very exciting day of discovery with a performance of Riverdance at Gaiety Theatre. The Lincoln’s Inn became our local for lunch during our stay at Trinity College.
Venturing into the Irish countryside we visited The Avoca Mill, the Wicklow Mountains, known as the Garden of Ireland including the charming village of Avoca, the setting of the TV series Ballykissangel, Glendalough, a 6th Century Monastic site. We explored the magnificent gardens of Powerscourt, voted the 3rd most beautiful garden in the World by National Geographic.
We visited Malahide Castle and the beautiful seaside village of Howth.
Finishing our Irish holiday we enjoyed a fabulous evening dinner and show at The Merry Ploughboys, voted Ireland’s Number #1 traditional dinner, including the best of Irish dancing and music.
