Scotland

We arrived in Edinburgh on an Aer Lingus flight driving through the Scottish countryside stopping at the quaint fishing villages of Fife on our way to St Andrews, staying at Agnes Blackadder Hall.

We enjoyed a guided stroll around the charming town of St Andrews, see the famous “Road Hole” and clubhouse at the Old Course. For golf fans, the Old Course in St Andrews was founded in 1756 and has been the “home of golf” ever since.

On our way to Edinburgh we called into the Fife fishing village of Crail and stopping at the charming Scone Palace where the ancient Scottish Kings such as MacBeth and Robert The Bruce were crowned and visiting Stirling Castle, one of the largest and most important castles in all of Scotland.

Onwards to the Scottish capital, founded in 1582 University of Edinburgh is the sixth oldest university in the English speaking world. The city has a medieval Old Town with gardens and elegant neoclassical buildings.

We walked up the Royal Mile from Holyrood Palace with our blue-badge guid taking us to Edinburgh Castle. We stayed at the University of Edinburgh.

During the afternoon some of us, with our tour manager further explored other areas of the city which was abuzz with the Edinburgh Festival.

This evening finished of a very full day experiencing the spectacular Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, being there was amazing and so much better than watching on television, loved it.

Leaving Edinburgh we travelled to England were we saw the Helix Park from our coach crossing the border at Carter Bar.
